Summer Trends 2021
As summer rolls around, the biggest thing on many minds is vacation. Believe it or not, many people are still taking vacations even through dealing with covid-19. Most vacations that would have been overseas or to a land far away have turned to more of a local, in-state, or in-country vacation. No matter what vacation you take this summer, whether it is big or small, near or far, we have you covered for picking some of this season’s cutest and most trendy outfits.
What is trending for summer 2021?
Based on what we have seen from top designers around the world, these are the top trends that we see taking off for summer. They are just trends and you can decide If you want to jump in or not.
1. Black and White
We do not normally think of black as a color for the summer. Mostly because the summer is hot and black just makes everything even hotter. However, white is always a popular thing to wear in the summer.
This summer is just a little different, the two are mixing together to create a monochrome look or as we have seen a color blocking effect with white and black as the two main colors.
Black and white when paired together make a very classy and eloquent look, in my opinion. I love the two colors paired together. Once again though, and maybe it is just from living in Florida, being classy and wearing black in the summer is on my “Try to Avoid” list. Will I try it? Very possibly.
2. The Maxi is Back
This is a trend that we all know and love. The maxi dress is back and better than ever. The longer and the more flowing the better this summer. Some of us do not have that summer body that we always try to work for during the spring. That is A-okay because we can hide anything in a loose and flowing maxi.
Maxi dresses have always been great for those blessed with longer legs. If that was not you, you can still join in on the trend by either tying up one side to keep it from dragging on the ground or if you know someone handy with a needle and thread, get them to hem up the bottom to fit your height.
This is a trend that I love and will be enjoying often this summer.
3. Wide-Legged Pants
Unfortunately the time for skinny jeans has come to an end, wide-legged pants are all the rage now. Don’t think bell bottoms; we are not going that wide. Just think elephant legs and if that is what you look like when you are wearing your pants you will fit right in.
Thankfully, trends are just suggestions. You will not see me rocking the wide-legged look. I will love my skinny jeans until the end of time. However, summer is not a time for pants, in my opinion. Shorts work much better in the sun than long pants do so I will be rocking shorts as much as possible this summer.
4. Caped Outfits
This trend will bring a little feminine flair to your wardrobe. Some designers have gone all out adding a cape to the outfit. Let’s be honest, though, no one is going to be wearing a cape around in the summer. However, other designers have added a cape effect to the sleeves or top portion of the shirt. It is normally no more than four to six inches long. It is usually a little frilly and just adds the perfect touch to the outfit.
I have really loved some of the designs that came out with this new, almost fairytale look. I will definitely give this look a go this summer.
5. Colorful Sparkles
This may not be what you were expecting and many will not join in on this trend but sequins are here for the summer. This is normally a trend that we see for winter just in time for the holiday parties. What are they doing in the summer? One may never know.
However, sparkles always shine brighter in the sun. So what better time to wear them than in the summer. I, myself, do enjoy some sparkle and enjoy wearing them not just on clothing but with my makeup as well. Sequins can be tricky to wear because they can often get stuck on each other and on other objects. So if you plan to wear sequins this summer, make sure you are not planning to do something too active. Or your outfit may get all jumbled up with the sequins.
6. Cut Outs
This next trend is quite drastic. Imagine making cut out snowflakes or cut out connected people as a child (or with your child). This is the newest trend as far as clothing goes. Instead of paper, designers have resorted to cutting holes in fabric, big holes in a dress or shirt. To me, it looks more like child’s play or like they put a child in charge of designs.
Some of the designs I have seen have been quite elegant but the majority of them err more on the side of trashy. Remember how ripped jeans looked trashy when they first became a thing. Well this new trend tops that in a whole new way.
A majority of these new outfits are showing off a little more skin than we need to. There is that idea of leaving things to the imagination that is missing in this new trend. I won’t be joining in on this one.
7. Lines
Lines never really go out of style. However, this summer, they are something we are going to be seeing more of. One of the rules of fashion is very important when considering an outfit with lines in it. Wear vertical lines to appear taller and on parts of your body where you want to appear slimmer. Wear horizontal lines over areas of your body that you want to appear larger.
The thing with lines is they can give a sort of optical illusion when we are wearing them. So choose wisely if you are going to decide to wear them. I tend to avoid lines for clothing for myself because I just do not like the way they look on me. You have to decide what you prefer for yourself.
Whatever trends you decide to wear or discard this summer remember that fashion is all about what makes us feel confident and comfortable in our own skin. Confident and comfortable is the perfect combination for clothing. I know that you will rock whatever trends or styles you choose to embrace.
Also, remember to put on the garment of praise everyday and several times a day (especially if you are feeling down). This is a special garment that God has given to us to help lift our spirits and our mood. It is better than any earthly garment that we could purchase or any trend that we could join. Praise God it is summer and there is sunshine. Praise him because you are alive and breathing. Praise him for all the gifts he has given you. Praise him because he is God.
