the BLESSING

Identifying the Goodness of God

November 25th, 2022

Romans 8:31-32, ‘So what does all this mean? If God has determined to stand with us, tell me, who then could ever stand against us? For God has proved His love by giving us His greatest treasure, the gift of His Son. And since God freely offered Him up as the sacrifice of us all. He certainly won’t withhold from us anything else He has to give.’ (TPT)

the GENEROSITY of a HOLY GOD

Colossians 3:12-17, ‘So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.’ (MSG)

The generosity of God’s heart is indescribable. His generosity is woven through the passages of Scripture from beginning to end, Genesis to Revelation. It prepares a tapestry illustrating a story of grace and redemption. I even wonder—as little details get worked out and small things here and there rise to the surface and tiny truths come to light when God shines His spotlight on mysteries that have been hidden—I wonder what illustrations are yet to be seen.

God’s generosity to me is beyond words. He has been so, so good to me. It is so undeserved and unexpected. I am often brought to my knees, my face, fallen on the floor, in front of His goodness(es) that cover the space between Him and me. The intrinsic answers to prayers I never even knew to utter, but He saw my heart or my brokenness and need. The uncanny completion of things left unfinished when I gave myself wholly to Him. The repair of things busted; the restoration of all in disarray. The kindness He met me with in the middle of sleepless nights and the stillness when the world is lost in chaos. The moonlight He brushed on my forehead and the sunlight drying tears and swollen questions. His generosity is far greater than a plush blankie, a favorite pair of jeans, a snowfall on a silent night, an answer to your most sought-after prayer. I don’t know about you, but this Thanksgiving season, I just want to sit in His presence and soak up His grace and breathe in His goodness, and know that at the end of the day, He is good, and He is God and that is all that matters.

Thank You, God, for Your graciousness to me. For all You have done and for all You have chosen not to do. I trust You and I love You and I am so very grateful You were patient with me so I could be written into Your story.
