The Power of Trusting in the Lord

A call came unexpectedly, and I was told that my son was not feeling well. He had been complaining of some headaches previously and this was after he had been in isolation for two weeks and had gone back to school. That morning one of his friends’ mum had send me a message that she had just received her son’s COVID 19 results and, they were positive. She wrote to alert me that there was a possibility that my son was at risk since they had been in contact. I was late to fetch my young one who had been waiting for almost two hours. When I got to the school the teachers took a few minutes asking me questions and I could read through their mind that they were wondering what kind of a mother who would not pick up her mobile phone in such critical times whereby anything can happen to anyone at any time. My little one looked calm so I touched his head to feel the temperature. I rushed to the COVID 19 Testing station before driving him home. The stillness in his eyes challenged my faith.

I heard him pray and thanking God that he did not have COVID even before he got the results. When the long awaited, message for results arrived on my phone and it was negative I smiled as I was reminded of how calm my son was even when waiting for the results. During this season of the pandemic, it is normal to be anxious because everything around us demands so, but I am reminded of the Shunamite woman in 2 King’s 4: 1-44. When her son she had conceived at a time she had given up hope on having children and her husband was old died in her hands. Any mother would have been traumatized by such an occurrence. Am sure as she was holding the son, she was believing that a miracle would happen and that she would not lose her miracle baby. Sometimes no matter how much we have believed that a breakthrough will happen things do not go our way.

In my book” The dream that was worth fighting for! I state “Have you ever been in a position where you look ahead and see a dead sea; to your left a big hole, to your right a veld fire and behind you, a hungry lion roaring? When you look up, all you can see is a clear blue sky above you but, of course, you do not have any intention to go to the moon and you are screaming – But why!!!”

The Shunammite woman did not throw in the towel when the son died but she remembered how she had got the miracle in the first place. When she left for the man of God, Elisha, she did not tell him that the son was dead. When he asked why she wanted to see the man of God she said. “It is well.” When Elisha asked her whether it was well with her, her son or husband she said, “It is well.” She did not allow the circumstances, the distress she was feeling inside to change her confession of faith.

Elisha prayed for the son, and he came back to life. The Shunammite woman did not focus on the dead son. When we have a hopeless situation and we focus on the Lord the giver of life and we confess that “It is well” because we know what The Lord can do, we will be victorious.
