whATTRIBUTES: PROVIDING ONE

February 18th, 2022

Philippians 4:19, ‘And my God will liberally supply [fill until full] your every need according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.’ (AMP)

Jehovah-Jireh, the God Who provides. What promise for hope in days long ago…what hope still today. The God Who provides.

We encounter the God Who provides when we sit down with Abraham and ask him to recall his memory of burnt offerings. Abraham’s face turns stoic momentarily, before it softens and then the tears begin to fall. We are reminded he never truly recovered; the moment he made his way through the thicket and delivered his precious son on the altar of sacrifice still wet with emotion like fresh paint. He recounts the startled look on his son’s face, his eyes wide with awe; how he remembers Isaac questioning, ‘Father, we have the wood and the fire, but where is the atonement? There is no sacrifice, Papa.’ Abraham answers, ‘The Lord, He will provide, the sacrifice, son.’ Abraham lays his son on the altar, atop the wood and rubble. He strikes the match and raises the knife to prepare for the plunge of the blade just as a sacrificial lamb breaks through the thicket and into the open.

We hear the Lord walking in the heat of the afternoon as the ram walks into the clearing toward a prepared altar. Then, He sewed leaves to make clothing to cover the shame and nakedness of His creation. We journey through the greatest story ever told and find time after time when our God provides: the closed mouths of roaring lions and the singe-less flames in a fiery furnace; a steadfast cruise on a lengthy voyage as the remains of humanity seeks a way to reach dry land; a cave and a whisper; a whale. But the greatest provision of all time from a great God is the coming of His flawless Son, the One Who would take away the sins of the world—yours and mine, and those of all mankind, He is Jehovah-Jireh, the God Who provides. Because of His provision, we can step into the holy place and be welcomed; we can meet ourselves in His presence where we find peace and His overwhelming love.

Ex 3:13-14, ‘Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” (NIV)
