7: the Number of Completion
Joshua 6:15-17, ‘But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times. And on the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: “Shout for the Lord has given you the city! Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house because she hid the messengers that we sent.’
Joshua 6:20, ‘So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him and they took the city.’
Joshua 6:22-23, 25, ‘But Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the country, “Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.” And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel…And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father’s household, and all that she had. So, she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.’
No amount of money, nor status or success could have ever come close to the profit Rahab received as the days played out. In fact, she thought a lot about the entire series of events and realized she had just been written into God’s story. She! a harlot, running a brothel! And her family even! Com’on now! They knew her profession. You don’t live with one another and not know certain things. They never spoke of it but they accepted the fringe benefits, and those fringe benefits then saved their lives. Yeah, cuz had she not aided those spies, had they not come knocking at her door, had the Lord God she’d heard about not written her into His story, they’d all be dust beneath the surface now.
‘Come quick,’ the men she met previously whispered. ‘Get your family; grab your necessities. Come!’ Again, her heart beat in her chest like horse hooves on a gallop. She beckoned her father and all the household as they rushed to follow her and the men. Everywhere was devastation, smoke smoldering on the ground, burning the dirt, the smell of flesh and wood filled her nostrils as she hid her eyes. They’d be nothing more than rubble had this God not chosen her. The awe of it almost rendered her helpless. One foot in front of the other, she commanded, and her feet obeyed. ‘Where He goes, I’ll go; where He leads, I will follow,’ she smiled, tiredly, thankful to be alive.
John 3:16-17, ‘”For here is the way God loved the world—He gave His only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!”’ (TPT)
