2 Kings 4:25-29, ‘The Holy Man, spotting her while she was still a long way off, said to his servant Gehazi, “Look out there; why, it’s the Shunammite woman! Quickly now. Ask her, ‘Is something wrong? Are you alright? Your husband? Your child?’” She said, “Everything is fine.” But when she reached the Holy Man at the mountain, she threw herself at his feet and held tightly to him. Gehazi came up to pull her away, but the Holy Man said, “Leave her alone—can’t you see that she’s in distress? But God hasn’t let me in on why; I’m completely in the dark.” Then she spoke up: “Did I ask for a son, Master? Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t tease me with false hope’?” He then ordered Gehazi, “Don’t lose a minute—grab my staff and run as fast as you can.”’ (MSG)
Wherein the Barren?
Her greatest joy and her biggest defeat could be encompassed by a paragraph of explanation. Shuna wasn’t shy about it; in fact, it was truth to rumor. She had never longed for what she could not have, nor had she tried to make believe out of reality. She was pretty rock solid; feet on the ground, no head in the cloud.
It was hard to know; everyone trying crazy ways these days. But there was this man…it certainly was not sexual attraction or about fame and fortune. She knew it; he was a good man, an honorable person. They had a duty and obligation to a Holy Man of God to make him comfortable and aid in his journey.
Then, it backfired. He returned tenfold to her; no, thousandfold. A baby? To a barren person?! That’s worth way more than gold. Ah wow! and now you’re taking him away?! Shuna no longer could fit her head inside of all that transpired, as she waited outside the room where the son she dreamed of but never asked for yet had been given, now being taken from her, was lying still and perhaps even dead. Til he wasn’t, as he walked through the door. Shuna rubbed her eyes as if she were seeing an apparition, her son, a ghost; once passed, and now alive!
Shuna did not know that it wouldn’t be long before the entire world would be in an uproar. It put so much in perspective. She was sent away from her land and her homestead and all she had worked so hard for; now gone. But when she returned, it truly was gone. She wasn’t putting with this for not one minute, as she strode toward the King’s throne. No matter what it took, she would demand… something. Little did she know how he, the King, would truly listen, and how her greatest defeat with a loss looming over her with her son, would repay everything she once had feared…
John 3:16-17, ‘”For here is the way God loved the world—He gave His only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in Him will never perish but experience everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it!”’ (TPT)
